This is a series of photos over the course of 30 days when I created an 8'x16' mural in Thailand.

Day 30 Cont'd

Here's another photo of the painting created by stitching seven photos together.  It gives a better feel for the dimensions of the painting, but you can see little ripples created by the stitches.  To get a closer view of the painting use the zoom function under Artwork (left menu).  So, I had a great time working on this project, and learned so much by working on this larger scale, especially that I like to paint big. So what's next?  Hmmm..........

Well here it is - the final product.  This photo really doesn't capture the painting.  It's just too big.

OK - so I took the day off.  But I had fun going to several museums to look at Thai art.  The country produces excellent woodcarvers.  I also saw many beautiful line drawings.

Day 28

I redid the Hotel Shangri-La (behind the Parliament building).  The top right corner of the previous version of the hotel was tilting out of the painting: a cool illusion, but not exactly what I was trying to achieve.  This version is staying in the correct plane and looks better anyway.  This is the final version of the bananas and coconuts.  I've also added lines to bring your eyes into the center of the painting.

This is the part of the painting I completed over the last two days.  I added watermelon and Sa Mo (a large sweet type of grapefruit - called pomelo in the states) behind the male figure.  I also finished the Koi and added some lotus flowers.

Good day to be an LSU fan.  I spent half the day painting watermelons and checking in on the national championship game.  LSU-38....OSU-24.

Here's a start on the Koi.  These are actually modeled after the patrons' fish.  There will be more detail later

Day 23 - The hazards of painting

It's tough being an artist.......I did some touchup work today and started on the Koi.  But I thought this was more entertaining.  Note to self: never bend down directly underneath my pallette.  I also got paint all over a screen door and some of the fruit and spent at least an hour cleaning up.

Day 22

I decided to add some fruit in the front of the boat.  My patrons selected coconuts and bananas.  This is a pretty good start but I'm not finished and is the only part that I'm painting from life (which I prefer).  The whole stalk of bananas cost $4.

Day 21 - So You Wanna be a Rock Star

I was requested to add sunglasses to the male figure, to make him more consistent with the female figure.  I was having trouble with the eyes anyway- the reflection of the clear glasses were really obstructing the eyes completely in the photo I was referencing.  So this was definitely a change for the better.

I've added the front of the boat here.  This is a departure from the small painting - I originally had elephants in this space...this looks much nicer.

This was my favorite part of the painting in the small scale s works.  I like it here as well.  This particular photo is low quality.  I'll post a better one later.

I did a lot of touch up work on several parts of the painting... really nothing to photograph, just details to make the painting stronger.
